CSR MANAGER ROLE
A Corporate Social Responsibility Executive is a transversal role with a strong mix between operational and strategic levels. Indeed, one detains the responsibility of reshaping the strategic vision of the business in order to have a positive impact on the environment and society. This role has various functions ranging from developing awareness about sustainability issues, collaboratively building the Sustainability vision for the company, conducting research on specific topics, building relationships with partner organisations, launching the first Sustainable projects, .... The required competencies of a CSR executive are numerous such as: passion and optimism, humility and continuous learning, courage and resilience, the capacity to build a constituency and many more. It is of the essence for this role to gain some legitimacy and more recognition. These executives are the pioneers of change. They deserve a visible role and a voice at the Leadership Team level.
It was quite surprising to find out how discreet and some times even difficult the careers of these executives have been. Relying on their personal convictions, most of them made the conscious decision early in their career to devote themselves to transforming their company from within. They started to instill their ideas in their current role as a Marketing manager, a Plant Director or a Procurement Specialist. Step by step, they grew at different levels their knowledge, their influence and their responsibilities. Ultimately they managed to engage employees at all levels of the company including top executives. Results are often impressive given the minimal support and attention they got along their way. Fortunately, CSR Executives are now better recognized in global corporations which have embraced a more sustainable approach to business. The role massively attracts young talents who have also dedicated their studies to sciences and various professions in a clear hope to contribute to restore the planet and build a safer, better and more honorable society.
